My first 90 Days as the GCSAA Southeast field staff representative

Oct 27, 2025

Reflecting on my first 90 days as the GCSAA Southeast Field Staff Representative brings a profound sense of fulfillment. Transitioning from a 30-year career as a golf course superintendent has been a significant adjustment yet immensely rewarding.

Embracing new neginnings

The early mornings haven’t changed. I still rise with the sun, ready to tackle each day with enthusiasm. Moving from the familiar hustle of golf course management to representing an organization that enhances our industry has provided fresh perspectives and challenges.

Incredible connections

Traveling to cities like Nashville, Tenn., Louisville, Ky., Mandeville, La., and Birmingham, Al., has been a highlight. Each trip has allowed me to connect with passionate individuals within the local chapters of the GCSAA. The warmth and hospitality I've encountered show how welcoming this industry can be.

I’ve met remarkable people deeply dedicated to their craft and I’ve just scratched the surface of these connections. It’s evident that the GCSAA community embodies collaboration and support.

The GCSAA mission

The GCSAA's mission, “dedicated to serving its members, advancing their profession, and improving communities through the enjoyment, growth, and vitality of the game of golf," is a guiding principle. It’s not just a statement, it reflects our everyday interactions and initiatives. I’ve witnessed how GCSAA works tirelessly to advocate for its members and promote the game we love.

A second family

What stands out most is the incredible team at GCSAA. The employees are genuine, welcoming, and passionate about their work. From day one, I was embraced with open arms, making my transition into this new role seamless. It feels like I’ve joined a second family, and I’m grateful for an environment that encourages growth and collaboration.

Excitement for the future

As I wrap up my first 90 days, I am particularly excited about attending the Chapter Delegates meeting in Lawrence, Kan., October 27-29 at GCSAA headquarters. This event will provide an invaluable opportunity to engage with fellow delegates, share insights, and discuss the future of GCSAA.

Looking ahead

I am optimistic about GCSAA's direction. As we celebrate our Centennial Celebration in 2026, we are on the brink of exciting developments that will enhance the golf industry and uplift its members for the next 100 years. I am excited to contribute to this mission and foster connections within our association.

These first 90 days have reinforced my belief in the power of connection and collaboration. I am excited about the journey ahead and committed to supporting our members. Thank you for being a part of this experience!

Sincerely,
Ron Prescott
GCSAA Southeast Field Staff Representative
