Shadow Creek Golf Club Superintendent Greg Niendorf elected to lead the association
The Southern Nevada GCSA held their Annual Election Meeting on March 22 at Wildhorse Golf Club in Henderson, NV. Nearly 50 members turned out for the first in-person event since August of 2020.
Shadow Creek Golf Club Superintendent Greg Niendorf was elected President of the SNGCSA with Conestoga Golf Club Superintendent David Buckley, Spanish Trail Country Club Superintendent Jon Christenson and Wildhorse Golf Club and host Superintendent Darden Nicks being elected to serve on the SNGCSA Board of Directors. TPC Summerlin Assistant Superintendent Kory Kirk was elected to the Assistant Superintendent board position.
Seven highly qualified candidates ran for the three open board positions making it a highly competitive election process. The interest in serving on the board is a great indicator of the past and current leadership in place and the steps they have taken to get more members personally involved with the success and operation of the chapter.
In addition to the election, Anthem Country Club Superintendent and outgoing President James Symons conducted a year-end review of chapter operations, initiatives and events and GCSAA Southwest Field Representative Jeff Jensen discussed upcoming GCSAA initiatives as well as recaps of the Golf Industry Show and the GCSAA Annual Election. Nicks was awarded the 2020 Superintendent of the Year for his efforts at Wildhorse.
A special thanks goes out to James and Aliante Golf Club CGCS Jeff Lezon who are both leaving the Board of Directors. James served two years as the President of the association and has done a great job continuing the growth of the chapter, expanding the Scholarship & Research Tournament as serving as the liaison to the Nevada Golf Alliance.
Jeff has always stepped up to the plate as a willing volunteer and in addition to his board duties was instrumental in the completion of the Nevada Golf Course Industry Best Management Practices Guide. He has recently become a GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador for NV-04 and we will keep him busy as the liaison between the golf industry and Representative Steven Horsford.
Thank you to Wildhorse and Darden for hosting the event during a very busy week in March. GCSAA and the SNGCSA are appreciative of Wildhorse and Elite Golf Management for their support of our respective organizations.
