    Hi guys,
I'm looking for some info on Supt compensation packages (or just salary) increasing when a 9-hole facility expands to 18. I took a job at a beautiful half course last year where the second 9 has been on hold for the past 6 years. Now there's a new owner and a healthy dose of cautious optimism that he will green light the second 9 in the coming years. Fingers crossed!
Tons of variables I'm sure but what have you seen/heard/experienced with regards to an increase in salary when adding another 9 holes? I want to be sure I'm in the ballpark with what I ask for.
    Thanks in advance!
    Geoff

I always found that is was easier to work at an 18 hole course than a nine. As a superintendent it is the same hours but with an 18 hole course you have more people to work with so when someone is sick he or she is easier to cover for and there usually is more equipment again easier to cover when one breaks. How you negotiate compensation is an individual thing. Are you offering more than you are doing now?

I with the above poster. do you work 40-50 hours a week now? if so adding 9 more holes and still working the same hours should not automatically give you an increase. think of it like California burger flippers. making $10hr currently but now they want $15hr for the same work as before.

I might consider a bonus for amount of rounds being played so its tied into the club making more money or something of the sort. or a bonus tied to the extra hours during the construction phase.

Sorry, I'm sure this was not what you wanted to hear.

I disagree with the previous posters. Yes your responsibilities will double and no your pay will not double. I agree in the fact that your hours might stay the same. However, there are a lot more variables. 18 greens more bunkers etc. Maybe your role will change. More management, less labor? Only time will tell on those two. However, if your new owner operates that way most businesses are now days, the additional compensation won't be what it should.

I would imagine an increase of 33% salary for an additional 50% of acreage to maintain. I'd also expect the budget numbers to double, and an increase in the labor and equipment. Its not about hours worked, but responsibilities, and yours would double.
