Does anyone have information about who may have hosted the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Men's Tournament last year or one similar to it? We are hosting the event this May and are wanting to know what to expect. Talking to several different associates, we have heard many different answers. Our main concerns are seating, and crowd control that are associated with this.

    Hello Grant:

The Meadows has hosted 4 NCAA Div II Women's National Championships, 2 of the Men's National Championships and several of the District Tournaments over the past 15 years. You'll find that it is a usually a great crowd and no real problems arise. The things that we try to do include roping off the driving range tee and practice greens, # 1 and #10 tee along with #9 and #18 green. We have been able to set up some bleachers (outside the ropes) for spectators to sit and watch at the those greens as well.

Send me an e-mail at DahlinR@gvsu.edu and I'll share my cell phone # so we can talk.

Your event will go well and you will have a ball getting it ready for these guys. Good Luck.

    Sincerely,
    Ron Dahlin, CGCS

During my tenure as a Superintendent I hosted DI Regionals and DIII National Championships. The only problem we ever ran into was "handicap spectators" requesting the use of a cart. At that time the NCAA's answer was to drive the spectator to a location and drop them off. This fulfilled the ADA standards for what was reasonable and customary. I really enjoyed those tournaments and watching the college players compete.

If I can be of help, please contact me. We have hosted several NCAA events. The NCAA committee is easy to work with and typically they have a manual as a guidebook. Most of the expectations can be found there.

We hosted a Southeast Regional last year and I can echo what everyone before has said. No major issues, they actually forwarded us info from previous clubs so that we could gather as much info as possible. Our rules guy was great, very understanding and easy to work with. You should treat yourself to watching some good golf as well. I did not realize how good those kids were until I spent the first day out watching. They did forewarn us about disabled spectators but it was not an issue.
