For those of you that have palms on your property, what do you do with the fronds?? They do not chip very well, they do not compost very well and they do not burn very well. You can only re-roof the tiki hut every so often!!
    Any suggestions??

    Regards

We go find some acreage on the back 40 somewhere and dump them.

we cut them up and put them in the dumpster. Pour some diesel fuel on them and light them up. Great control burn. Just kidding on burning them up. We just cut them up and fill the dumpsters up.

Must go in the regular dumpster and not the green waste dumpster. I guess they are tough for everyone along the chain to deal with!

Our staff cuts the stalk part and brings it home to burn for cooking. The leaf part we use as a base for our compost (we have a rather large compost area). we stack them 4-5 deep and then add the composting material over the top as we accumulate it. It composts pretty well for us this way and also allows some air circulation on the bottom of the pile, for a while anyways.

When I was working in Hawaii, we chipped all our fronds. If your chipper isn't doing it then the blades possibly need replacing.

Correct, We have to sharpen our blades every year. My Equipment Tech developed a jig to hold them on our reel grinder or bedknife grinder to sharpen them correctly.
