I am sure I am not the only, but very concerned about our colleagues on the East Coast. I haven't seen anything on the forum yet. I am sure that you are busy and communication is down, but would like some updates. My course should be closing down in a week or two and depending on my bank account and my old lady I could come out to volunteer my time for a while.

I can hardly imagine the flood and salt water damage many courses must have experienced. I am sure many are still without power. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted. The pictures look worse by the day. I am sure the human toll will rise well beyond current numbers as more people are able to get back into these hardest hit areas.

    Greetings;

We, in Massachusetts were lucky that Sandy didn't take a left turn 300 miles further north. NY, NJ, PA, Delaware DC, CT bore the brunt of the storm a direct hit. They were devastated. NC, SC, FL RI were also impacted I
cannot speak for my neighboring colleagues. I can only feel for them. I know we were without electricity since Monday evening and we just got it back today. I am fortunate to have a generator and the boys put it on a club car and backed up to the cellar door.

In MA, the concern was about flooding and beach erosion and of course people's homes who lived close to the ocean. ( Don't know why anyone would build that close). There was damage but not as much as expected. Needham G.C. lost about 12 to 14 trees - some broke some up-rooted. We didn't get that much rain - about two or three inches so no water damage. Thousands of little branches all over the place. I would say the golf courses inland and on the coast fared very well with Sandy.

It took a couple days to get all the trains and busses running but nothing like NY and NJ. Northern New England looked ok.

We did have hundreds of thousands without power but they should be ok by the end of the week end. The seas were rough with 20 to 26 foot waves. but the damage was minimal.

I'm sure some other MA, RI,CT,VE, ME, NH supers could chime in if they have electricity.

We could get snow next week!!!

God Bless all those people in the direct path of the storm. Many lost everything except the shirt on their back.

New England was extremely fortunate and one might say we dodged a bullet.

P.S. Did they name this storm in honor of Sandy Clark from San Diego?

In watchng the evening news the past few nights the folks in the northeast are experiencing something that is almost the norm of late for the Florida and Gulf Coast states. The big diffence is they will have to deal with cold instead of heat. I know 155 lineman from our area headed that way on Monday or Tuesday to help in power restoration. They keep talking 3,4, 5 more days............in my experience with power outages it may take considerably longer than that. Lets hope for the best.

Electric out since Monday 10:30 pm... Got a generator from 3 hrs away last night so I could save my fridge and have some heat, got the heat today after work. Lines for gas are a mile long at the gas stations who have gas left and power to pump it. No hot water because I can't get the adapter plug for the generator and 220 service.

Had a cd shower at 11:00 last night after I got back with the generator and set it up in the dark. Not fun at all.

We will open for play tomorrow 18 holes. Lost a dozen trees, leaves everywhere and little sticks galore.

I type this from my phone which works most of the time. Eating out is the only way to keep semi sane - hot food and warm environment. Busy though.

Hopefully the gas stations will get gas for next week.

That's about it for now will be in 30's next fee nights.

Feel free to send hot water this way!

We only lost our power for a couple days at the course but that is because we are on the outskirts of the city. At my house, on the other hand, I did not have power for 6 days. The lines at the gas stations are very long during the day. A half hour to hour wait with mostly cars from NJ and NY. Generators, chainsaws, electrical plugs, etc.. have been sold out since before the storm hit. On the course we lost about 20 trees. Most of them were on two holes. A couple tees were damaged but luckily no greens were. My boss's house was not so lucky. A big pine fell on the roof. He needs to replace the whole roof, a couple walls, carpet, insulation, etc. As bad as it was, It could have been worse. It was not as bad as they predicted. We only got 1 1/4" of rain with it which was good. It really would have been a disaster if it snowed or we got a lot of rain and flooding. Speaking of snow, it looks like we might get some of the white stuff in a couple days. I hope everyone else affected by the storm is doing OK.

Would like to thank all the states in this great country that sent tree companies, electric companies and law enforcement officers to my home state of New Jersey during the past two weeks following Hurricane Sandy. Without these people we would still be without power, they did such an outstanding job we were able to open within a week. As far as the courses here, wind gust up to 90mph means that there will be ample firewood next season. Flooding was minimal here but a few courses in the Atlantic City area have asked our local chapter for help and the response was unbelievable. This past week we also had a Nor'easter blow in and dumped 10" of snow on us so I guess the swarms of locust are next. Once again, Thank you all and if help is needed somewhere else in this country I will find a way to help. God Bless..
