I work at a facility where we employ 11-12 H2B workers that stay though the end of October. I was curious if any of you that use H2B has received the NEW prevailing wage for your area yet? If so where you shocked by the new wage? It is now into September and we have not received our new wage yet...??

Just got my letter from DOL yesterday. I was shocked in the sense that it was not as bad as what I was told from our agent. The new wage increase is not that drastic for us as some of our H2B employees were already making that amount per hour. I have talked to other facilities and businesses outside of my area who also use the program and the wage increase was drastic for them. I guess it depends on where you are located. I am still not happy with the way the DOL is telling us what we need to pay them though.

Well John that is good news then! We have been told by our agent that it is going way up but honestly I dont see how that is possible. I guess I will just have to keep watching the mail. I agree that it is terrible that they can tell us what we have to pay our workers. Ours at above fed min wage you would think that would be enough.

Can't you hire locals for minimum wage?

Mel yes we could but the problem with locals is that they dont want to work. We have been down that road before and for 15 openings we went though 40 people in a 5 month span. We have a 36 hole facility and it is just so important to hire workers that want to work, show up everyday, and are not on drugs. So that is why we choose H2B.

Well our agent got our letter yesterday and our wage went up $2.14 per hour from what it was at. But the DOL has made a mistake saying that we perform government work. So now to appeal the wage and have another issued since we don't work for the government..So more waiting!
