Has anyone in the Southwest area had any luck eliminating Salt Cedar or Desert Broom using either Arsenal herbicide or Garlon 4 Ultra Herbicide? I was told by a plant pathologist that if you cut the plant and paint a solution of 3 parts MSO and 1 part of either of these herbicides, you can come back in a few months and kick the stump out. Dead as dead can be. Going to try it but was wondering if anyone has used it in a foliar application and what results have you had..... THANKS

I've used both of these to take out several different species of trees, up to 100' tall Pines and Live Oaks. Be very careful though with both....I know for a fact the Arsenal has a long replant time after application. Unless, of course, that is what you are going for.....

Every time I have applied it, we mixed with Diesel fuel (acts like MSO) and sprayed the trunk to about breast height. I do remember the larger trees needing a few reapplications, but within about 6 weeks, it was all dead as dead can be.

well, I can't upload the photo for some reason but I treated the trunk of a fairly large and very healthy salt cedar plant/tree with Garlon 4 Ultra and MSO or spray slick. Three weeks in and the bottom foliage (which I didn't spray, are smoking!) You can see the herbicide moving up the plant. Bye Bye SC!

The Next step is going to be all the desert broom plants that the guys have cut back, spray those and see if I can kick em' out in six months. This product gives me hope for controlling woody plants.

Well It is six months later since my application to the trunk of a very healthy, 20 foot tall salt cedar. I applied 1/2 Garlon 4 Ultra and 1/2 water to the base of the trunk up to about 6 feet with a paint brush. The plant has no leaves and I can crack some of the smaller branches off. IT'S DEAD. That was great for the test but the true apps I have done are on freshly cut salt cedar plants and desert broom. Same rate.... Cut and paint immediately, and I can can kick them out after six months. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

    Good morning,

My golf course has a high % of salt on the soil . Im appling solid Gypsum Ca sulfate . The golf club buyed a new topdressing redexin machine with two disc for sand distribution. Every time Im doing top dressing on the fairways is making a cloud of gypsum amd Im loosing a 10 % of gypsum.

How can I fix that ? Any advice fron another GCS whit similar situation ?
