At my course we redid the bunkers two seasons ago with stay lock liners and pro angle sand. We have noticed coming out of winter that the bunkers develop a layer of algae in the top inch or so from not being touched and staying wet from snow. Underneath that the sand is still nice and white. We have found that if we continue to break it up and rake it around the sun kind of bakes it out but we are still left with a dark tan colored sand. Has anybody ever experienced this? If so, how have you treated them or did you come up with some remedy that worked well. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Shovels to remove it works great - before the sand pro hits it.

We have the same issue, we have Best Sand the ridiculously expensive white stuff. If we can't rake it regularly it will develop algae. This winter/early spring we edged and then used hoes to rake deep furrows into them. In an attempt to sort of rotate the sand from top to bottom and air it out. It helped quite a bit, we can't do anything mechanical due to having fabric liners and bunkers designed to be smaller, to almost force a hand raking. It also helped when we had huge wind come through a few ago, sand settled into the furrows rather than blowing out. Look to actually be fully staffed this year so we will be able to rake bunkers daily to eliminate the problem.

Clay, I hear you have a really large deck. How much does it take?

I hear if you have money you don't need a big deck.
