    Since Gov. Walker seems to be a hot commodity right now for the Republicans, what are your thoughts on his desire to end tenure for professors at state schools?

    I happened to think more about it when I saw a post on twitter, where a professor was approached by another school outside of Wisconsin. Since Wisconsin is a big turf school, how might that affect our end of the business?

    I do know I read that even Texas is not considering this move and actually appropriating funds to attract Nobel Prize winning people to come teach in their state schools, knowing that education is an important economic engine/driver? (that is my opinion of what it seems Texas thinks about their higher education system, although down in the local elementary and high school level, I guess there are some issues on what to teach and what not to teach?)

    Mel,
    I think it is a great idea. How many tenured superintendents do you know? Nothing in life should be guaranteed in my opinion.

    Yes Mel, I agree with Kim. If you get sick and cannot work you should be forced to sleep outside under an overpass. That might even be a bit too ritzy.

    I get what your saying Kim, but the question I wonder, if your state isn't going to offer it but another state is, doesn't that put your state at a disadvantage? While some professors, you wouldn't miss, for say our industry where researchers don't have tenure, are the chance in the long run they leave, doesn't that hurt our industry in that state?

    Same when states compete against each other when offering tax breaks, incentives and other devices to lure business to their state or city? I feel sometimes why is the state giving a tax break to a big business while I still have to pay my share? Why can't I get the same break, but I know they get these breaks, because the new jobs created are suppose to offset the break given to the business. Of course sometimes these breaks when someone does the math, it doesn't really pay.

    Greetings All;

    I have no idea of what I will post has anything to do with Mel's original question. It seems I do that quite often. However, I think it all boils down to MONEY!

    I would think some of the ladies would chime in because they have good ideas about schools and teachers.

    It has been stated Wisconsin has a great Turf School. I think they will keep it and probably make it even better than what it is if that is possible.

    Our State, Massachusetts, spends TWO (2) BILLION DOLLARS a year on illegal immigrants. And, that is a fact. Now, what would we do with this money if we didn't have to spend it on ILLEGALS! I guess It could go to schools, teachers and professors.

    I know I posted the following somewhere but I forget where. On June 4, 2015 my grandson graduated from Harvard and only four (4) people per graduate were allowed to attend. My grandson's mother and father went, my daughter and my grand-daughter went. For my wife and I to go would have cost $1000.00 - Five hundred dollars apiece. I was not about to spend that to listen to our former Governor Patrick Duval. I know our Senator Warren taught at Harvard and the pay was about $375,000 per year. And, someone this past week donated 400 million dollars to Harvard. And, they wanted an old retired guy like me to spend $500 to go to the graduation.

    The state of Maine stopped paying for illegal immigrants but some towns dished out the money. These towns wanted the state to reimburse them. The governor said no and the judge agreed with the state.

    I'm sure there is a lot of money to spend on education but we seem to forget our own people when we dish it out.

    Keith;

    There is a reporter named Howie Carr who writes articles in the Boston Record American newspaper in Boston. He also is on radio and TV in the local area. He goes after people and politicians who cheat the public and handouts such as the 2 billion. That is where this information is coming from.

    Don't know if you remember a few months ago the people in a California town had signs saying they could not afford the illegals coming into their town. People never got off the bus and they were sent to an airport. Three plane loads landed at Bedford Air Base in Bedford, MA with the illegals thanks to our former Governor Patrick Deval who is a personal friend of Mr. Obama.

    We have a retired employee here at Needham, a former Federal Bank Examiner that cuts fairways and he researches the truth in these matters and he is seldom wrong.

    Remember, Massachusetts is a very liberal state and very Democratic. We voted in a Republican Governor.

    Keith, Partisan? Non-partisan? Who knows? I do know you're pretty good at googling stuff, so try these on for size..... Maybe you saw these already.

    Maybe not 2 billion.

    Cites itself as the source. Again.....sounds legit.

    Conservative "watchdog" group primarily funded by conservative billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife that says MassHealth may have spent $35 million on illegal immigrant health services

    A nice article that shows what some Mass residents think illegal immigrants get, and what they actually may get from the state. States no $ figures.

    20-year old males in 9th grade? http://www.vdare.com/posts/lynn-massach ... -kid-costs
    Vdare.com is an anti-immigration hate website that regularly publishes articles by prominent white nationalists, race scientists and anti-Semites.

    Maybe not 2 billion.

    I saw most of these already and the only sites that alluded to the figure Capt. states were partisan or conservative tabloid.

    Tenure was put in place to protect teachers from retaliation for non conforming political views. Before you ban tenure, you might want to think about it for a bit. I would suggest reading this:

    Sleeping under overpasses isn't too horrible, but killing the hobos for their cardboard is the worst.
