We are experiencing a rippling effect with one of our cutting units, like it is not spinning as fast as the others. We switched the hoses from the one acting up to the other reel motor and that one acted up. So we know its not the reel motor. In the past jacobsen techs recommended that the viton ring could be the problem but we replaced it and nothing changed. So that brings us to the hydraulic pump... I found a rebuild for half the price of a new one. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this and what action they took. Thanks Bill

When you replaced the Viton oring did you only remove the top half of the valve to do it? The bottom part of the valve, or the base that threads into the valve section, has some seals that need to go in a certain order and are tricky to keep in place when threading it back in. If they were pinched or torn during install it can show similar symptoms to a failed Viton oring.

Bill, I would follow Mr. Hart's recommendation. Not sure what Region you are in but, Jacobsen has field techs in the US and if you go through your local supplier and TSM for Jacobsen they can get you a quick answer. In my Jacobsen sales and past end user experience as a supt, I have seen this occur and Bret Hart's recommendation is valid.

Switch your lines at the pump and see if the problem follows, if so then its in the pump, if not, and your reel motor is good then its in the valve-bank and Bret would be right, as there may be a pinched or torn o-ring in the bottom portion.
