Fuel getting into oil. Gas runs out after about 45 min. of operation. Is this a typical John Deere (kawasaki) motor problem? What could be the issue? Thanks.

I would first check the fuel stop solenoid on the carb as well as the float needle.
I have had lots of issues with the heads on these motors. Everything from coolant in the oil to gas in the oil. most likely you have a bad head and or head gasket valve ect. If the carb checks out I would preform a leak down test to try and narrow down the culprit.

Thank you Zachary for the quick reply. I had to put the green reels on the approach mower until I can sort this out. I dealt with the solenoid and the carburetor so I guess it's on to the leak down test. As the superintendent here I am also the mechanic (term used loosely) so any help you give is very much appreciated. Thanks.

My pleasure typically with a head issue you will get a engine performance problem, excessive smoke from the exhaust, coolant in the oil but usually only a little gas in the oil. If your getting a ton of gas in the oil I still suspect the carb may be worn out. another thing is I believe there is a fuel pump in the fuel tank I would make sure its turning off.

how many hours on the unit? I replaced one of our carbs around 2700 hrs as it was flooding the engine with gas after shutdown.

I just replaced the carb on my 2500 because the tabs that hold the float up had wore out and the float was allowing the gas to fill the engine with gas. My dealer said that at 2000 hours they have seen this issue quite a bit. Easy fix and solved the problem.

That engine has problems with the floats sticking and allowing the gas to continue to flow down into the cylinders. I installed a fuel shutoff valve in between the tank and the carburetor and make the operators turn it off every time they are finished.
