WE have a pair of 2500 E's that we use for mowing greens. I've noticed over the years that the lift arms don't raise up as high as they used to. I can't see that there is any adjustment to improve the lift of the cylinder, but maybe I'm missing something.

On a side note, I have a feeling we caused this by not making it mandatory to lower the cutting units when parking for the day. I've got a lame feeling that we have stressed the cylinders, and now they just don't have the lift they used to. If that makes any sense.

And another issue we've noticed on these units is the braking mechanism. Are these just junky or what? I'm considering replacing the return springs to get the play out of them, but man, they just seem really poor after not many seasons.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Have you replaced the bushings in the lift arm pivot points? We have done this twice in ours. We see similar to what you described but we lower the units when parked.

Replacing the bushings will help, but I suspect just like you said stress over time from having pressure on the lift cylinders from not lowering them at end of the day. I always make operators lower units to floor to remove pressure and it helps out.

Those lift arms need liberal greasing. One needs to attach the grease gun on the two zerks on the front of the machine and then witness grease oozing from the pivot bushings. That is a long travel for the grease and just giving a squirt or two is not sufficient.

All excellent suggestions gents. It gives me a good starting point to turn to. I fear the cylinder stress is going to be the culprit.

For park brake this works and cost pennies instead of $$$.

Replace the bushing to start with. They're relatively cheap compared to the cylinders. Grease the zerks til you hear/see the grease coming out. I know you're aware but its best to lower the units to the ground to avoid unwanted stress on the cylinders over a period of time. I've used 2500s for years on greens. I had to replace the bushings and cylinders over time from never lowering them. Lesson learned.

If replacing the bushing don't work you may want to pressure test the relief in the lift circuit. had to adjust both of my units and they now lift perfectly.
