I rebuilt some rear rollers this weekend and when I set them up on the bench they were free spinning with acceptable resistance. After putting them on the reels and pumping 10 shots of grease in each bearing housing, they were very tight and I had to back off a half turn on the nylon nut to get them to turn. My question is, could the grease that we're using be too good for these roller bearings? My mechanic says its high temp grease and should not break down. My thought is rollers don't operate under high temp. Has me thinking that as the grease thins out just a little, that the bearings loosen up and may be causing damage. We replace roller bearings now a lot more than we used to, or so it seems to me. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

If you grease until the gun seizes you have pressurized the cavity. Use a scribe or other pointed instrument and press in on the ball of the grease zerk, an amount of grease will ooze out and your roller will now turn freely

Some high impact greases have fibers in them . Ok on a roller but with the higher speed of reels that kind of grease can actually pull away from bearing .

Could the inner seal be reversed not allowing the grease pass by to the roller shaft cavity ?
