Ryan Greensaire 24 bushing removal Cancel The title field is required!

   We have a Ryan Greensaire 24 that I need to replace the bushings & seals on the slide guides & the pushrod slides. In the past I have used a hack saw to cut through one side of the bushing to relieve the tension & tap it out. I recently tried using an air hammer with a bushing cutter but that dug into the bore of the slide guide. Anyone have a better idea of how to get the bushings out without damaging the bushing bores?

   Blind hole puller set. Insert the size that just fits and tighten it down, its expands and you use the slide hammer and it comes right out. You can pay for a good set from Snap-on, Mac, or Matco, but Harbor freight, MSC Direct, or Northern Tool will have them for far less, and they will do the job.

   I did try a blind hole puller but the expanded collet closed down when I tried to get the bushing out. I used a bearing press to do it as I thought that the slow steady pressure of the press would be better than the hard impact of the slide hammer. Is there a fine line between the expanded collet being too wide or too narrow? The collet I was using didn't have the best square edges on the pulling edge. Should the pulling edge of the collet be in very good shape i.e. not rounded?

   The smaller the collet the weaker the feet or "pulling edge". Even the large ones do not have a "square edge" because of the one-size-fits-all aspect. I'd file the pulling edge of the feet square and cut the bushing with a hacksaw or... Make a puller out of a bolt, bushing, washers and nut and forget the slide hammer. That would give you a strong square edge.
