We have a 5400 that will not raise or lower the reels at different times. Sometimes, just the two rear go down. Then other time, all but the front right goes up and down. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Mark,
I had a similar issue with a 5200D last year, intermittent failure of the reels to raise.
Off the top of my head, I believe it was either the S6 or S7 valve that broke.
    I'm thinking it's S7.
I'd check your solenoids first to make sure they're energizing. Use a meter, or quick-check with a wrench: when the solenoid energizes, the magnetic field will pull your wrench to it (a good way to field diagnose).
    Regards,
    Mike

We have a 2005 toro 5400 the reels will not come up. I have tried changing the micro switchs for the joy stick. As well as swapping selenoids and cartridges for the lift arms. Any suggestions would be a big help.

Have you changed Hyd fluid recently if so you may have a vapor lock. You can try loosening a line on one of the
lift cylinders to see if they will work. It's worth a try.

It's been 500 hrs. Since last fluid change. Thanks Ron, I will start with lift piston and go from there.

From the Toro 5400 Service Manual

    Cutting units will not raise:

    -Flow control valve is closed.
    -Engine RPM is too low.
-Solenoid valve S7 is not shifting.
-Solenoid valve S3, S4, or S5 is not shifting.
    -Relief valve R1 is by-passing.
    -Lift cylinder(s) has(have) internal leakage.
    -Lift arm pivots are binding.
-Gear pump section P3 is inefficient
