With all the negative in sports these days I thought I would share an example of the exact opposite that I experienced yesterday up in Oakland.

As I was sitting in a committee meeting for our upcoming golf fundraiser for junior golf programs in Oakland, who walks in? None other than Hall of Fame baseball player Joe Morgan. Mr. Morgan had just given us a substantial donation last week for our event and was out playing golf at the public golf facility we were meeting at. He came in and thanked everyone on the committee for being involved and giving of their time to support the youth of Oakland. He basically said that while some can provide financial support there is no greater gift to the youth of the world than giving of one's time.

He is not directly involved with any of our programs but does care about the community where he grew up. I had previously met him on a couple of occasions and was impressed by his dignity but this moment really impressed me. With everything going on wth baseball these last few days it was nice to see the other side of what these athletes can do for their communities.

    Thanks Mr. Morgan!!!!

    Great story,

I just saw on facebook some Royals players out in the community up there at a field that is being built for the disabled.

Nice to see them out there, but I'd bet it's in their contracts to give a few hours of their time to the community.
