Creation of Topo Maps Cancel The title field is required!

   Anyone have experience with the creation of Topo maps for the course. We have original documents at 4' contours, but preparing for renovations to include drainage plans and redesign, recommendations are coming in at 1'-2' contours. I have heard that some companies can do a 'flyover' process vs. traditional surveying. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

   You might check with your regional flood plain manager or surveyors. You are looking for what they call LIDAR maps or data. I saw one map that was carved out of foam less tree canopies, pretty cool!

   Many years ago we created new topo maps for our course when we were doing new cartpaths and trying to create up to date as-builts for our irrigation system. We had to mark all the heads and valves on the course with cardboard and then they did the flyover. I remember there being some field work (maybe a day or two at the most) after that but not extensive surveying. Not really sure of the exact process to create the topo maps from there but if you are working with a golf course architect on your updates he should be able to help you find the right folks to create your new topo maps.

   I had a topo done a few years ago. We had a company here in Iowa do the flyover for us. They also did the ground control work. You can mark your sprinkler heads with plates but it is a tedious process. We choose to GPS our heads at a later date. Cost of the topo was not cheap.

   We had a topo done for a tee project. The architect we were using found a company to do our map, they actually had flown the area previously so no need to fly again. It is a nice tool to have on hand.

   Not sure if this is will meet your needs but the S.C. DNR has lidar data available. The info on their page says 2 ft contours but not too familiar with this data type. I would suspect that an architect would already know what data is already readily available and this data won't work but you never know...
