What is your annual budget for greens fertility? I think with all these new foliar and granular fertilizers coming out that my program is getting to costly. Thanks for your responses.

About $7,000. About 3 acres as the sprayer goes. 25 year old Pennlinks nearly poa free on USGA mix.

2 granular aps in April @.4 lb N/m.

10 liquid aps late April to mid Sept @ .1 lb N/m. every 2 weeks with the normal fung etc aps.

3 granular aps @ .5 lb N/m Mid Sept through Oct.

    Kim,

Mine is about $15000 including spraying my approaches everytime. Close to 7 acres total area. No granular, all liquid apps. Your greens are awesome by the way!

I recently went through the same thing. My greens (about 3 acres) were getting pretty expensive and was limiting what I could do other places. I'm now doing 4-6 .5lb apps of Andersons Contec DG 18-0-18, 10 apps Adams Earth from plantfood (1 - 2.5 gallon jug), 10 apps 6-iron from plant food(1 - 2.5 gallon jug or 2/3 of a jug depending how things look). Cost me $4350 per year if I use it all. Even with my wetting agent (Fleet) I'm still under $7000 for the year. 9 greens are 105 year old sand top dressed push-up greens 8 greens are 60 year old sand top dressed push-up greens and one USGA green In the northeast. All are about 50/50 penncross/poa.

Granulars through winter months as long as we aren't frozen. Melt down urea or Ammonium Sulfate in season as inexpensive N source. Other than gypsum, epsom, potassium sulfate, and occasional shot of minors, pretty simple. Those high dollar fertilizers are good, but I feel turf responds well to basic, brown bag fertility. I don't get too cute and prefer to whip up my own batch than have standard off the shelf that might be convenient, but not necessarily what I need. I will throw in Humics and seaweed extracts between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Kim, our greens program cost around $3,600 last year for just under 3 acres. We ended up with 3.7#N/M, .14#P/M and 1.4#K/M.
