    Hey guys,
Our club has recently approved the purchase of some new aerifiers and we are looking at the JD 800. They've added a verticutter option that runs behind the coring head that claims to go 1.75" deep. Does anyone have these and if so what are the pro and cons?

    Thanks in advance,

May I ask why the John Deere and not the ProCore from Toro? I have a mixed fleet of John Deere and Toro, love them both. I have both an AerCore 800 and ProCore, the ProCore puts the AerCore to shame in all aspects of aerification. I know price differnce comes into respect but the speed you get from the Toro vs JD will make up that difference. Just my 2 cents.

    Justin,
We were planning on getting 2 800's. The reason being is that we are on a tight schedule every year to get all the greens aerated, plugs cleaned, verticut, and blown off in one day. My fear is that if we only have 1 Toro 648 and if it goes down we will not be able to finish in time. Also having the ability to skip cleaning up the plugs and not sending out a triplex mounted verticutter would be a huge time saver for our small crew. That being said, there is no denying that the 648 is far superior than anything else that is currently out there.

Just the fact of how poor the 800 has been overall and having parts come from Long Island would deter me from the Deere.

Curious though to hear about the new unit.

Have used both and by no means is the pro-core twice as fast so by running the verti cut unit behind it in stead of an extra man on a separate machine you will save some monies. Be careful though and make sure you start high with the verti cut unit. Sales man was running late, said the unit was set properly and when we dropped it down on the practice green, well lets just say a chisel plow would have been less aggressive :o If money was not an option, both units have a place and work well. You'll be amazed as to how much material you can pull.

After using both I feel the toro option is much faster and easier to use. I had Deere 800 for years and switched to procore, just better machine. My entire fleet is Deere, with exception of sprayer and the procore, Deere just doesn't have option to compete. New Deere version is suppose to be out in October from what I have heard. It has a head 8 inches smaller in width than toro but has a floating head. It is there response to procore. I also use Graden if needed.
