Ripples in bunkers Cancel The title field is required!

   Ok guys, this is a new one for me. What's causing the ripples in our bunkers? Is it the same concept as to the ripples in a dirt road?

   If it's what I think it is, it might be from running the bunker rakes too fast. I've seen them like that, and what works the best is to get them out is to rake slowly in a tight circular pattern.

   Well put Mel! It is typically from going too fast. The John Deere 1200A is notorious for this and the ripples are typically worse in the turns. I have also started having the crew work in circular patterns and warn them to slow down and occassionally have them go in the opposite direction.

   Speed. Once 1 bump pops up it doesn't take long for them to multiply. As stated, occasional spiraling across the bunker helps flatten them, or the front blade.

   Thanks for the replies. Speed was my first thought too, however we have slowed down the machines to compensate for this and have the same results. My next step is lowering the tire pressure with a slower speed. I hope this will give me better results.

   When we see speed bumps, I typically make the guys go out with hard rakes to get the bowl shape back into our bunkers, while also checking depths. With summer help, this generally gives them an appreciation of being able to use the machine rake. I do find myself using our JD1200 H less and less...more raking of floors and touchup work, and less wall to wall.
