Three phase vs. single phase pump station Cancel The title field is required!

   For our new pump station, the electric co. has quoted 56,000 bucks for bring three phase to the property. I think there is a chance I can negotiate a lower cost for that installation. We could go with phase converters (and not worry about the three phase power coming down the road) for the pump station, but I'm told (by my electrical engineer brother) that in phase conversion there is about a twenty percent inefficiency. So, if it would cost 100 dollars to irrigate a cycle with the true three phase station, it might cost 120 dollars for the single phase converted to three phase station. Does anybody have any thoughts on this math?

   Seems that 3-phase power is the standard at most golf course and to be honest with you I wasn't aware of the option you discussed to run pumps so I guess I've learned something today! I'm just looking at it from a cost standpoint and if you were to save 1500 to 2000 a year multiplied by 20 0r 30 years then there would eventually be some savings.

   We have two golf courses here at MGC. The old pumpstation on the old course is 3-phase and the new pumpstation on the new course is single phase.
   One would think the newer more efficient pumps would cost less to run but that is not the case.
   It does cost about 20% more to run those newer pumps on single phase plus the demand charges are higher.
   Good luck getting that 3-phase install cost down.
