Anyone have a rule of thumb on range tee size? I have 275 active members in central NY and range is included with membership. My tee is 12000 sq'. and we sod twice a season with low mow blue. I want to increase size of the tee but by how much?
    Thanks Pat

As big as you can reasonably make it. Seriously, having been through several range renovations and facing another this year, have never heard anyone, player, pro, or superintendent say it was too big. Habits have changed over the years. Today's player spends more time practicing and sometimes only has time to hit the range and not play a few holes. Go big. Just when you think its big enough, go bigger.

Excellent advice. As big as you can. While we were under construction for a new back 9 in 2006-07, we remodeled the driving range as well. We pretty much used all the available space and doubled the size of the tee. Ended up with approx. 28,000 sqft. and I still wish it was larger.

Ours is just over 25,000 sq ft. With about 19,000 rounds it is OK. We Use half the width at a time and rotate each side about every 3 weeks. We move the rope for the stations from back to front about a triplex width every day. This gives an area about 6 weeks to recover before the station is back to the same area. There are 7 bag stands and divot buckets per 2 golfers giving us 14 stations to hit from. We do use the full width infrequently for tournaments, not outings though. You can see on google earth the set up.

This is a great resource if you can get into it. Can't get this to link. USGA booklet with several articles about tee size. Kenneth Ingram, UMD
