can anyone tell me why you should or should not (im going with not ) stop on the green next to the flag
to either remove it or replace it and or just roll as close to the flag as you can without hitting ???????
    appreciate all input thanx
does it effect green speed or consistency

Maybe but overall...it's just a good idea. Mostly because of the busted flag sticks Marshall mentioned.
Speaking for myself, I don't want anything stopping on the putting surface.
Does it make a big difference in the surface quality...I doubt it.
Probably as much a difference as mowing a straight line or not.

I do not think it affects surface or putting quality but you can get visual differences with a roller or mower from slowing down or stopping and then going again. Most of what we do is visual so why risk it so close to the hole.

Back in 84 my first boss had extra long arms and could pull a pin and replace it without slowing down or swerving. That lasted until one day he caught the pin and broke the pin and bent a mower frame. It was a forbidden practice after that.

We have had a few trying to stop on the green to pull and to replace the pins when rolling. When the sun is at lower angles there is a definite visual depression left behind on that spot where the roller sits.

I would think if you can see a depression or a difference it would effect the balls roll . maybe slowing or changing direction of travel. thanx for all who replyed. I asked this being a non playing shop guy
