I had one earlier this year, was not as bad as I thought, they also did an upper gi too. It was entertaining for my wife as I was so groggy afterwards. I remember waking up and saw my doctor go by, I told my wife that was my doctor he will probably be in here next, she just laughed and told me he had already been by. I asked her 4 or 5 times what the doctor had said. I remember getting wheeled out to the car, then the next thing I remember was going through the drive thru at Wendy's and then the next was pulling into the garage.

I will say everything was good, and due to the city getting ahead of the game on the ACA, they covered the entire procedure, (well not the upper gi, but the other was, and my wife said the upper gi didn't cost hardly anything either.)

In the long run from what I hear you will be glad you had it done.

In the end, I hope so, too.

The actual colonoscopy is probably a lot more fun than the prep the night before!! The last thing I remembered was "roll to your side" and then heading for home.

As Gary said its the prep that's the pain in the behind! the rest is easy and no pain! Besides one must do it once you turn 50 to make sure you don't have any colon cancer! If good don't need it again for 10 years!! I did it and all was good!! Better to do it than to not then find out you need to have something cut out the bad way! Be positive and we shall all pray for you! Besides you are now very clean on the inside after, so Tee it high and Let it Fly!!

They gave me two packages of what appeared to be Tang, One for 18 hours before the procedure, the second for 6 hours before. The stuff tasted pretty good but I swear it musta gone bad cause I spent a lot of time on the commode. Being completely drained and scared sh%tl&ss I headed in for the procedure, took off my laundry and put on one of those breezy gowns. A Lady plunged a needle IV thing into a vein, I went in and laid on the gurney backside out. A guy used a really neat quick connect to hook up to the IV stub to his potion. ( I was envisioning uses for it on the course) The last thing I remember is telling the lady," This may be your biggest challenge ever. I have a tremendously strong sphincter muscle, you know. I have never knowing been violated in this way be[size=85">fo[/size">[size=50">re[/size">...."
When I woke up I felt like I had the best sleep ever. No drowsiness nothing. There was a note in front of me stating "Follow up appointment ""As scheduled"" 3 Polyps removed"

I guess if there was a problem the followup would be more immediate....At least that's how I'm looking at it for the time being

Two things I remember about mine:
Hearing the doctor laugh real hard when I asked him if it was true that my colon looked 10 pounds heavier on the screen.
And...I bet I will be one of the only times EVER I get encouraged to fart and to keep farting.
Oh yeah, I also got to eat all the ice cream I wanted...but I don't think that was actually part of the procedure.

I asked the nurse if that was the same stuff that Michael Jackson used to sleep every night....she said "yes" just before I nodded out. When I woke up, I realized why he did it, that stuff is awesome!

Ever wonder what possesses someone to spend years and tons of money to become a proctologist? Rummaging through the depths of Red's innards can't be that much fun, can it?

I'm wondering if their (doctors) parents tell them to pay attention in class or they end up proctologist? At least the guy doesn't have to have a great bedside manner?

Yes, but he does need to have a tremendous Backside Manner.

I guess it is somewhat appropriate that this post is under the forum section 19th Hole

I went through a colonoscopy back in March, prompted by my family, but what really motivated me was how the late Jeff Wallace was done in by colon cancer, may God bless his soul.

The preparation, drinking an evil tasting postion, and over two quarts of it, no less, followed by a mutlitude of overnight visits to the throne was torture, but the actual procedure with the general anaesthetic was completely painless and had no side effects.

As I was discharged, they gave me a report on the results - two polyps removed - complete with glossy color photos, which I could have done without.

The best part was digging into a cheeseburger afterwards knowing I had a clean bill of health.

Nice to see you back Steve. Did you hear officially that it was colon cancer in Jeff's case? We were under the impression it was a rare form of gall bladder cancer. I still have this weird feeling that Jeffy is still with us

I am surprised so many of you were actually put to sleep. I think I was only given valium or some other relaxant. I was able to watch the entire thing on the screen. I had mine in my late 50's. I figure i will have my next one at somewhere around 100. The first 50 worked out fine, no need to rush the second one!

On no, man...you should rush back in and ask for the full treatment. Definitely the best sleep you'll ever have. Of course, the exhaustion of the night before might be helping that.....
