Boy, thoughts and prayers have to go out to the people of that town. What little I have seen on the news makes it look like a bombing run in a war. As bad as it looks, the number of deaths will surely rise. For those of you that have said you would never live in California due to earthquakes, this looks many times worse to me. I can't even imagine the terror of a a massive twister like that bearing down on your community. Prayers and condolences to all those impacted by this terrible event. Hopefully, everyone will contribute to a key charity to help these folks out.

Driving home from work and listening to the coverage on the radio, I wanted to drive down and help out what I could but they were discouraging this to let emergency personnel in. I live about an hour north of Moore; it is unfortunate that the school was in session and they did not have an adequate storm shelter. An hour later school would have been out and they only had three days left until summer break. Most of the times tornadic storms dont form until later in the afternoon when kids are home. It is heartbreaking but the outpouring of generosity from all over is tremendous, and Oklahoma is a very resilient state.

For those not from this area, our meteorologists are the best in the business and they were warning people to get out of their homes and drive out of the path for at least 20 minutes before it hit Moore. They were literally yelling at the people in the path to get underground or get out of the way because they would not survive otherwise due to the EF4 plus magnitude. Many more people would have lost lives if not for these warnings.

They officially increased it to an F5 as of yesterday. I heard the devastation was on the scale of multiple Hiroshima bombs. I am amazed the death toll actually went down. How about the poor kids that got underground and then drown. That is so tragic. I have watched some of those storm chaser programs on Discover and the Weather Channel. You are absolutely correct about the quality of work the meteorologists do in the mid part of the country. I have felt earthquakes all of my life but even looking at Northridge several years ago, I can't imagine an earthquake ever being as complete in devastation as a big twister event. I have to imagine the survivors of horrible events like this have mental scars for years. I wish I could do more than just donate money. Again, thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted.
