Ladies day.........it takes them almost 6 hours......
Madge gets out of the cart, gets her stuff, walks boldly onto the tee, takes the requisite 43 practice strokes and skulls the ball 26 yards into the left rough. She scowls, stomps back the buggy, seats herself and then and only then, Helen arises from the cart and repeats Madge's show except she tops the ball into the lake.
9 hours have now gone by when Phyillis decides to get off her fat........and steps up to the ball, sighting down the fairway as if she's about to kill a buffalo at a thousand yards and takes a mighty cut and whiffs! This goes on all.friggin.day.

Golf committee meeting.......the ladies are concerned about the pace of play and insist that the Rangers are not doing their job.

I'm hiding the sharp objects from the Pro.

Here we can't send out any groups for about 45 minutes behind the ladies because they don't want to feel "pushed". It's still a 4:50 minute round, plus the extra 45 minutes of no tee-times for a course that was rated to only take 3:45 to play.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, our men's league, on a full shotgun day of about 90 players, will take 4:00 to play 18 holes and they complain about slow play as well. They say the rangers aren't doing their job either.

I've always wanted to write a book titled: Why Can't Women Pick-up?
To this day, I have never seen a gimme amongst a group of women...
The dance some of these groups do around the cup is almost funny...almost

I was out one Ladies Day mowing fairways 29 years ago at a private club with a Jacobsen F-10. (Link to picture below for those of you too young to know what an F-10 is).

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jacobsen-F10-Wi ... 1119wt_868

So anyway, I'm on this 550+ yd par-5, about 30 yards in front of the green, mowing towards the tee box. I see a foursome get up on the tee so I stop mowing to let them hit. I'm still at least 520 yds away from them. Three of the gals tee off and hit it somewhere forward. As I wait for #4 to hit, incredibly she's standing there waving an arm wildy for me to get off the fairway. I couldn't hear her since I'm 520 yds away with an engine running, but I'm sure she was yelling something akin to "get the %$@* outta my way, Stupid. I can't see the flagstick!" That's the only thing I could come up with.

I thought to myself...."you're kidding me, right? It's gonna take me about two minutes with this old mower I'm on just to lift each reel and exit the fairway. Then It's gonna take you eight shots just to get to me anyway, and you want me to get out of the way?"

Since she's one of my 420 bosses, I picked up and parked under a tree in the rough to let them finish the hole. Counting her strokes as I was committed to do at that point, what turned out to be 57.77 average yds per shot, it took her nine shots to get where I was, so I was wrong about that. Then of course I had to let them finish putting. She had a 14, but probably told her partner it was a 12.

It must have taken them 20 minutes to finish that hole. By the time they were done, another group was in the fairway, with another on the tee. I don't even remember if I ever finished mowing that hole.

    I dreaded Tuesdays back then.

It can get worse as all the talking heads are encouraging that growing the game by getting more women out there is the way to go.

We sound like the "He-man women haters club.

I've been mowing on a Parkmaster, (couldn't find one of those on eBay) before and while waiting for golfers pulled up under a tree with that Perkins just idling and promptly fell asleep. (was as Disney World the day before and didn't get home until about 2:30)

We do have some slow ladies here but we also have some that play just less than four hours. Our normal guy group every morning plays in about 3 hours, maybe 3.5 when in a fivesome.

Not wanting to discourage women from playing, but some of them should be encouraged to tee it forward. I know in high school tournaments we have double par as the highest score for some of those teams that aren't very deep.

They need to come up and train with our ladies at MGC. Most of them fly around the course and push the group in front of them! They don't mess around and I applaud them. Sure the League nights, championship matches and outing days are slower but that is the same for our male groups. On days of just regular golf with our women members I see no issues. I played in a twosome behind a foursome and threesome of ladies this fall. We never waited and played 18 in 3.25 hours. My group of Northern gals know how to enjoy themselves and move while doing it!

Yesterday the ladies club had us do target circles around the cup on 4 greens, two straight drive lines, mark the GRU extra generously, and have one green with three different flags for their 'special' Xmas tournament. Turns out only 4 groups played on what was a beautiful day in SoCal. 4 freakin groups.

Well, these gals aren't southerners, thats for sure. Theyre probably the slow ones from your club who come down here to make our winters miserable.

    Steve:

Please try to get get them trained before you send them back up to us for the summer.

It could be worse guys. One private club I worked at actually had two ladies days per week. Now THAT was painful.

I think their training days are over, brother. We have two ladies days per week here, too.

    Regards,

I was the GM at one club that had two ladies days per week and two separate groups. They did not get along. We had the Weekday Ladies and the Weekend Ladies. I never had a problem with their pace of play though. Come to think of it I had a third group that played our Par 3 course, they were beginners and delightful. Every once in a while one would graduate to our big course ladies.

Your ladies know who the slow players are and don't like it either. It is not always pleasant, but it is up to the golf staff to address the issue.

As far as ladies golf is concerned it is not what distance it takes to get to the architect's anticipated tee shot landing zone, it is what club is used for the approach shot to the green. If I am 150 yards out hitting 8-iron and my female playing partner is hitting 3-wood, you have to design the green to accept a shot from each of those clubs. That is not done and the ladies do not have a prayer. Spend time with your ladies or as one of the best pros I ever knew called them "GLOGS", which stands for, "Gorgeous Ladies of Golf of course!" A "Ready Golf Talk" at a luncheon does wonders as does quiet talks in the office with slow players.

The PGA Professionals show respect for each other and their stature. CGCS's not at all.

Our ladies league is not too bad and play right along despite some of the senior women not hitting the ball that far.

College golfers are horrible and are usually the problem for pace of play in the larger events we host. High school is a little better but in a 60 player match only 10 have the skills to play the blue tees and the rest should be from the white or silver.
