We took the aerator off and put it on a Hydrostat tractor. For those who aerate with Hydrostats, I"d love to know the secret. The pictured tractor will sit beside one green for a day or two until parts arrive. It will be a testament to the necessity of having a regular replacement schedule

We deep tine with one, works great for us depending on who is running it. Only solid tine. What secret do you want to know?

I agree with you 100% on a replacement schedule, wish we had one too.

How do you keep the speed steady? I'm using quad 1/2" ID. With the broken gear tractor in 2nd turtle, full balls out I get a perfect hole edge to hole edge at 1 inch square pattern. With the hydrostat, the spacing was all over the map

We aerate fairways and our range tee with a hydrostat tractor. Our old mechanic was the primary operator during aeration and he had a block of wood he put under the pedal he trimmed until the pedal travel was just right.

Now, my assistant and I do it without the block of wood and we just closely watch. After a while you just have a feel for it.

We don't do greens with it though.

We just did our greens the last 2 days with a 648. We had some minor issues here and there and I told the guys as we finished the last green that those are the most stressful 2 days of the year and I was going home and making a margarita. They said it wasn't too bad. I said no but there are a lot of things that could go wrong and potentially very wrong and the thoughts are in my mind all day both days.

I know with our new Kubota L4600 (1 1/2 years old) it has a "Cruise Control" lever that is manually operated, I just push it to the desired setting and leave it there. I do have to hold it in place for maybe a pass or two, but I match it up to the same spot on the sticker every time.

I know the older models (which one of our other courses have) that had a small latch to pull and set or Kioti which has a push button, it isn't always easy to get reset after a pass. I didn't like it because I was so particular about spacing. That is what allowed us to stick with the Kubota even though the Kioti beat it on price. (weight was another factor).

Buy a Kioti hydrostat tractor. Comes standard with cruise control.

Is it still a push button to engage on the Kioti? That is why we picked the Kubota, it is a manual lever to set the speed control.

Sorta a hybrid. Push button to engage the cruise function with a throttle lever to set RPM.
