Just wondering, when looking at SLR digital camera's I see something like 10 - 12 mega-pixels for mid-level pictures and something like 16 - 18 mega-pixels. Don't know if anyone knows but I'm used to using film and was wondering if one can compare the quality of pictures of film with what it might equal in mega-pixels?

    Thanks! Mel

A higher megapixel camera will allow you to blow up a photo without distorting the photo much. If you are simply snapping and printing, a lower megapixel works just fine. A lot of the photo quality is also related to the type of paper and printer you use. If you are simply wanting to take pictures to use on your computer, you can do just fine with a 10-12 megapixel(or lower) camera.

That being said, I run the Canon EOS 60D with 18 megapixels. I rarely print my photos, typically just use them for presentations and documenting. However, I still also carry a pocket sized Canon Power Shot with 12 megapixels as this camera provides less heartache when dropped out of a Carry-all. Both Cameras work just fine and I doubt any of us could tell a difference between the two's photo quality.

I think this entire forum should undergo a name change, from GCSAA Forums to " Just Ask Andy".

I get around. However, I'll leave the politics to you guys. No time for that.

Don't but for MP's, they all have plenty. The computer will be the limiter there. Do some research on lenses, as many cameras offer high quality for small money. I know Sony has some Zeiss options, for instance.

Or just get an iPhone, which takes ridiculous photos, for some reason. My 10mp camera hasn't been out if my drawer for months.
