We've developed ridges in our Poa/bentgrass collars that we can't seem to get rid of. They run perpendicular to the edge of the green (parallel to the reels). Many of them are evenly spaced, with the spacing about the same distance as the distance between the front roller and the reel. They aren't there or at least aren't very noticeable at the start of the growing season (Northeast Oregon). I'm thinking that in the spring the Poa starts out-growing the bent and that clumps of Poa lift the front roller, thus lifting the reel starting the development of a ridge anywhere there is sufficient Poa. But maybe I'm all wrong. We mow collars at 0.135. Anybody have any ideas regarding either causes or solutions.

Sounds like speed is too fast or reels too slow. Hard to get rid of once developed.

I've had this happen using John Deere mowers especially. They seem to speed up over time and in my opinion they are generally too fast when we get them new from our dealer as it is. We always slow them down a bit regardless if its a fairway mower, greens mower, tee mower or other wise. If it has reels and its John Deere it's probably too fast.

I just finished reading your post and saw that you mow collars at .135????? Is that really necessary? Might as well call it a green.
