   So we have been wet, VERY WET! cart path only for almost two weeks. Early last week I let carts on using the 90 degree rule. Yesterday I was in the proshop and I overheard a member say to the clerk " wow it's still wet out there huh?" So, being a proactive superintendent I interrupted and spoke to this person. I said, "It's not that wet out anymore, I let carts out yesterday." His reply "Then why 90 degrees" followed by me, "AS oppsed to what?" He says "AS opposed to driving everywhere we want!"

   We have to expect golfers to be confused about the 90 degree rule. In their minds they are always traveling 90 degrees to something.

   90 degree rule is pretty stupid, if you think about it.
   
   Drive straight to your ball, hit it, get back in your cart, then stright back in the tracks you just laid to get to the cart path.
   
   Then drive to your cart partner's ball. Let him hit it, then retrace your tracks back to the cart path.
   
   And we expect them to know what 90 degrees is, or how to abide by it?

   I gave up on 90 degrees when I heard this.... Golf shop:"The 90 degree rule is in effect".
   golfer: " Well, hell it isn't even 85 out, yet".

   I agree, it's either cart path only or it isn't. When it isn't, drive anywhere you want, except for next to greens and we're good.
   
   We have "No Cart" signs about 40 yards short of every green. Every chance we get we will pick them all up and "forget" to put them back out until someone brings it up. They don't follow the signs and they are just another obstacle for us to mow around. Of course, everybody blames each other for the traffic issues. It's never their fault.

    Instead of 90 degree rule We have actually started having 3 holes cart path only per week (except for when it is completely cart path only of course) not including par 3s so really 7 holes and a sign in the pro shop explaining why. And each week the holes rotate to the next 3 there are signs on each hole about every 100yds saying "keep carts on path". I will admit it ticked some people off but 99% of the golfers understand and of course not everybody obeys the rule but if just 50 out of 100 golfers/day do that is a success in my book!

    All these comments actually made me laugh out loud! We have also tried all of these things this year with the weather to keep as much cart revenue coming in as possible. However, I have come to the conclusion that the Pro Shop staff and the members have extremely short term memories. Pretty much forget all the rules as soon as they step on the first tee. Shutting the carts down is the only way to go! They don't realize that if they could just follow the rules that carts would be out more often than not!
