Finding out this morning the Presidents daughter is spring breaking in Mexico despite warnings it is not safe. But considering 25 secret service agents covering her and her 12 friends, is it safe?
    http://www.montrealgazette.com/travel/O ... story.html
Glenn Beck "the hated" has mentioned how the article and news of the trip is disappearing from the web. This is the elitist mentality that I sometimes refer to. 13 years old with 12 young friends in a foreign country with 25 of the finest to protect her, is that enough considering this is the daughter of the President of the United States??? Is this necessary in the way of money spent and or the probable risk it puts the girls and possibly the country.

    Jon,

This is a non-story. The Obama's were rich when they entered the White House. Their children deserve and need the extra security. There are plenty of real issues to complain about the Presidents administration. When the opposition complains about the trips the Presidents Children take it weakens the argument (in my opinion).

To me it is a story. A 13 year child of the president should not be in a country where our own government has warned others not to go. Is it necessary to have full security detail being paid for by us for a child and friends to have a lavish spring break at 13. Havent we been told Mexico is a possible gateway to terrorists entering this country? Im sure the secret service is the most capable people on earth to protect these children, but remember terrorists dont care for themselves and have unorthadox tactics.

    Jon,

When the story about the first lady and the kids went to Spain last year broke, there was a big stink about it. If I remember then and I'm sure it is the same now, the president will personally pay for the vacation and the security detail for the girls. Or at least the added security. I can see your point to a degree about Mexico, but there are plenty of other Americans vacationing in Mexico as well, and I'm sure there are some republicans among them.

Like Sean says, it is a non story, solve the economic situation, tell me how you guys are going to get $2.50 per gallon gas, get people back to work. Stop coming up with laws that seem to pick only on women, then we can have some debate and discussion.

Sorry Jon, but Sean nailed it. Our Presidents' families have been protected for years. This IS a non-story. Unless you count our entire fleet of aircraft carriers, 3,000 additional warships, and every available Special Forces unit available that will need to travel to Oaxaca. I mean.....all those logs required to roll those ships so far inland requires a lot of money, and the rope surely wasn't cheap. At least it wasn't the $500 trillion spent on that trip to India. President Bush spent $506 trillion on enchiladas in ONE day in Crawford. (Several above comments are "Not intended to be factual statements.")

The State Dept. issues "warnings". They would be remiss if they did not, but they failed to isuue one about the curb I tripped over in Cincinnati 30 years ago. If they had, I would have avoided that curb. Stupid government...

Please send a postcard after your next trip to Oaxaca, and/or to Scottsdale, AZ. And please be careful. They both have curbs.

Have to agree with Sean and Jeff also. Not a fan of extravagant vacations for whomever is in the White House when others are suffering. But again not much of a story. If she wants to eat tacos and burritos in Mexico and have a good time at the beaches I wish her well and hope she has a blast. Glad she has 25 agents for protection as that is the only way 13 year old daughter of mine would go.

I stand corrected everyones comments I agree with. Maybe Im old fashioned in my 46 years of age but 13 year olds and spring break with friends in a foreign land is overboard.

Jon, Just remember that is what you get for disagreeing with Sean on this forum. Nobody goes there except me, and now maybe you. - Scott

    Jon,

I'll agree with this comment. Haven't raised kids but I agree that sending a group of 13 year olds to Mexico for spring break seems a bit much even without considering all the costs involved that the taxpayers may or may not be paying. Kids are probably paying their own way, right? I always thought of spring break as something for older college age kids to do to get away. I guess the question is at what age are kids too young to go on such an adventure. I'm still having a hard time when I see kids 7 or 8 years old talking on cell phones all day. I guess it's all part of the new generation and how things have changed. Don't kids spend time like this with their grandparents anymore? That's what we did.

Oh well. Just glad to be old I guess.

I guess it became more of a story now that Mexico was hit with a good sized earthquake. I haven't followed this thing with his daughter but wasn't she in Oxaca (probably spelled wrong), because they received a pretty good shaking. I bet that is an experience none of those 12 and 13 year old's never forget!

Many years ago I was one of 3 adult chaperones for my son's senior trip to Jamaica. About 20 or so 17 and 18 year olds. The other two adults were both female, one a doctor and one an attorney....all we promised the parents we'd do our best to get them back alive..........which we did. Can't imagine a group of 13 year olds.......sure those agents will have some stories to tell they own children some day.

The President's family is provided with security whether they are in Georgetown D.C. or Cancun. Didn't Bush's daughters do an African safari while he was in office? I don't remember anyone getting their knickers in a twist about that.
