Just wondering what everyone's take is on Cliven Bundy.

I know some people on the far right really jumped to his defense at first (Ok I mean Sean Hannity) until he opened his mouth. Taking his comments about blacks out of the mix, because that tends to taint his original stand against the BLM, what about his stand against the BLM? Did it get blown out of proportion because it was the federal government and they seem to not be supported right now?

When I listened at first, the BLM seemed heavy handed (of course jumping on the first stories one sees), but as stories came out that this guy had been grazing for 20 years and not paying his fees, while other ranchers did, and also the history of how that land became federal land, what the heck took so long to go after this guy? We complain about welfare cheats and such, wasn't this guy a freeloader too? Did he even pay his income taxes?

Just curious what everyone else thinks. Of course we're probably all too busy to care at the moment, but thought I would take a shot. Always interested in others views on topical news, (maybe I should learn to enjoy Tropical news?)

Maybe real estate mogul Donald Sterling could help him out.

Maybe Harry has some plans for the land and suddenly it became important! I don't know enough about this guys history but I do have a problem with how much land the federal government has taken over. I am much more of a states rights guy and feel the mult- millions of acres the government has in the west is highly unnecessary. Are the states too stupid to manage them? I can see for military bases and National Parks but what is the need. Is it to protect a bunch of fake endangered species? He definitely should have paid any required fees but my feeling is it should have gone to Nevada and not big brother. They will hold him accountable and they will get there money. They did go strong arm for no logical reason at this time. Again, just an opinion because I don't know all the details. All I know about Nevada is Las Vegas, Reno and I guess they raise bunnies and mustangs at a couple of ranches out there. Have no clue why?? Must however be good business!

What this story demonstrates yet again is that rich people have a different set of laws that apply to them. The guy hasn't paid fees in decades but has the money and clout to flip the gov't the bird. Try not paying your property taxes and see what happens. Probably the same thing that happened to this lady:

Meanwhile, closer to home this rich guy hasn't paid his taxes ($4M) or mortgage ($33M) in years, but somehow still soldiers on.

I have to be honest. I haven't paid as much attention to the story as I probably should. But, from what I have gathered, ol' Cliven appears to be a freeloadin tax deadbeat.

Don't feel to bad for the rest of the classes. There's plenty of tax cheats up and down the economic ladder round these parts.

Reading some comments on the story on another site, there were those that complained of the "Brown Shirted" BLM Thugs, doing as Obama wanted.....then someone reminded the commenter that the grazing fees were instituted under President Ragan, they then commented on the Tea Party tend to forget anything that happened before 1988.

Sandy, I haven't read a story, but thought I had heard that the states granted the land back to the federal government, so the state itself wouldn't be saddled with the cost to maintain it? Or it had something to do with the federal government purchasing the land back in the 1800's? I'm not sure about how the federal government ended up with the land, but I do know a Republican, President Teddy Roosevelt was a big proponent of the National Parks System.

What I said all along was, he was a deadbeat, freeloader and was in the wrong....but it was way over the top by the blm to come in there like they did. They could have placed lean on his cows/farm, but snipers and assault weapons over grazing fees is heavy handed IMO

Come on, Sandy. Don't pretend you didn't know. The Mustang was closed down several years ago.

Pete, I am shocked that they did something other than raise mustangs and bunnies! How would I have ever known? Didn't know the Mustang Ranch closed but I remember one of those brothels was actually taken over by the government due to bankruptcy. Not sure if they sold the property and business or if it all just went away. If someone needs to go out to the boonies and pay, I would just say, to each their own! Not for me to judge what goes on in another persons life.
