Gentlemen, We have an issue with a triplex that might be beyond my knowledge. Went out to check how things were cutting this spring, and the right reel motor visibly is not cutting as cleanly. I decided not to tack the reel speed, but rather changed out the reel motor with one we had on the shelf that was brand new. We are still seeing the issue on the turf, and especially in the buckets. HOC is not the issue. I was studying the manual, trying to trace the lines back to the hydraulic manifold, and its doable, but I thought before I go further, I'd ask my peers. My guess is that its a flow control orfice on a fitting in the valve bank. But before a tear a bunch of things apart, I wanted to ask those that know, which one does control the right hand cutting unit motor?

As a side observation, we noticed the hydraulic fitting for the small middle line off of the motor must have gotten knocked at some point, and is visibly bent at the metal fitting. I'm assuming there could be some restriction of flow from this hose, and that it might be the culprit? I'm not hydraulic wiz, so your advice and help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The valve controls all 3 motors which are in series. Which is the "right" reel, driver's or passengers?

If you suspect the motor on the suspect reel is spinning slower than the others, then you should swap out the motor that is front (in the hyd circuit) of the suspect reel.

so it'd be the right front as you sit on the machine. I did switch the motor, and no luck. What exactly does the smaller line do? I had always thought it to be a bypass line of some sort, but could a restricted line there ( I can't visibly see it, but the fitting is tweeked badly ) cause enough flow issues to make that single motor in the series run poorly?

Center hose is a case drain, so normal flow is in and out with the larger hoses front and rear. Normal operation is zero out of that center hose. I'd be curious if you have another cutting unit you could put in place on that mower and duplicate or not...My guess is it's cutting unit set up issue

I did some messing around. It turned out to be a warped roller I believe. Put the cutting unit up on the bench, spun stuff to check it out, watch the one end wobble. Pressed a new bearing in, and it did the same thing. Must be the end that the bearing is pressed into is milled of square, not sure. I did switch the front two around and produced the similar issue. We also found the cage that the basket roller was on needed some attention. I altered that. Then, we came up with something a little different through deliberations:

So these are on some old SPA reels we've turned into sand reels. I thought this first mowing would be a great time to try them out. My goal was to run them with smooth front rollers to mitigate the amount of sand that is furrowed up with wiley's following topdressing. Maybe someone else has seen this, maybe not. But, it appeared consistent in another light pattern this afternoon, that those 4 lb smooth front rollers were giving the effect that the left hand side of the cutting unit was underperforming in comparison to the right that has the reel motor attached. I found it hard to believe since the counterweight on the non motor side should compensate. I don't know for sure if that is a phenomenon worthy of note, but I went back to an original wiley, and the cut was consistent across the plane. I believe these are 11 lb rollers.

Anyway, every one of your reply's reinforced what I thought was accurate on the machine itself. I thought I knew how it operated and what things did, but its always nice to double check. Thanks so much, its great to have peers willing to share their experiences.
