   We bought one last month. Using it for the first time I was not too surprised that it was not as easy as it looks. Some of the cart paths were rather difficult keeping the blade in place because we are a Bermuda grass course and the Bermuda crept pretty significantly across the cart path. During the second day of operation we bent the shaft on the lift cylinder. R&R sent us a call tag and took the cylinder in for repair. That took about a week(no charge). You have to be mindful that it is a pretty powerful cylinder, electric with hydraulic assist. It will lift the vehicle your using it on. We have it attached to a sand-pro 5000. I'm sure that with more practice and keeping the cart paths maintained it will go faster next time. It took us three days to do our eighteen hole facility. I think it was a good purchase. I heard Toro has one similar, however I've only seen pictures of theirs.

   Thanks John. I appreciate your insight and experience. Guess it's one of those specialty machines that one guy will have to master to be efficient. They make it look easy on the video!

   I love telling stories, I had a Greens Chairman that built one for my backhoe!!!! yes that's right the front bucket of our backhoe. he used a tiller disc and a large spring and some heavy metal and made us try it out. worked for about 5' of hardly any grass before it broke. I told him the backhoe was not the equipment you want running around edging your cartpaths with. he finally just went a bought a stick edger! we did them one time and then we got a new Greens chairman.

   Smithco has made one for years that works off of our hydraulically operated center tool mount. It does take some time to get used to using it, but it can be much faster than walking. It has a retail price of $1,782.00. Some customers will couple it with our rear mounted blower to make quick work of handling the debris.

   Well I pulled the trigger on the R&R edger. I figure it should pay for itself with three passes around the course. The manual edgers take so long to get done that they're ready to be edged again by the time 18 holes are done. Thanks for the input guys.

   We had a similar one mounted on a sand pro that also towed a Buffalo Blower. Others are correct in one guy had to master the operation, but could edge and blow 18 holes of continuous cart paths in about 3 hours. Always had to send another guy out though to hit curbs and skips, etc...
   
   And yes, you'll bend some shafts on the lift cylinder - electric or hydraulic. Especially where the concrete has shifted and allows the wheel to catch. The trick is go slow.
