Hoping anyone might be able to help me with my Aercore 800. My staff had told me the unit was trouble and never worked well so as aerification came closer I started checking into it and found many issues (timing off, bad bearings, belt tensions off, etc) and made necessary repairs. 2 weeks ago I took it out to get the nursery and practice greens finished to make sure all was good before we started on the rest of the greens once we closed for the winter this week. Started off great punching a good hole etc. until the last pass of these 3 greens when a ram drive belt went. No problem had an extra belt replaced and re-timed and ready to go...of course light snow arrives Monday so we wait until yesterday. First green it makes 5 passes and when I lift unit to turn it makes some noises and head wont lower or raise for that matter. I turn the engine off and the head still acts like it is stuck between raise and lower...tines not moving but machine shaking. Only way this will stop is to turn the key on(engine not started) and move the move raise lower handle to lower though head does not move. If key back off, starts shaking again until you turn key back on and move handle. JD thinks it may be a bad relay however I do not have a tech manual for the machine and have no idea where to start testing. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

Are these electric ram head lifts or hydraulic? It sounds as if you have electric, and they aren't playing nicely together.

    Greg,
Yes they are electric lift/lower ram drives or actuators as JD calls them(have never had anything other than hydraulic style aerator before in my career). I was able to find a tech manual to purchase on-line and started the fun of going through the schematics and tests and finally found the problem (at least I hope it is the only problem!) to be the lower limit sensor. Does make sense as to why the machine seemed "confused". Ordered replacement sensor which should arrive Monday and crossing my fingers I should start by mid afternoon, albeit, a week behind! Luckily it looks like the weather is cooperating for the next week at least.

We have an 800 that gave us problems for years doing what you described. We had several different mechanics go through it and they always came to the conclusion that is was the magnetic sensors. We event took it to the dealer and they went through it. Once the sensors were fixed/replaced the machine would work for a while and then start all over again with the same problem. Finally we decided to buy the auxiliary hydraulic lift/lower kit and the thing has never had a problem since.
