There is a maximum wear limit, but you need to remember that the lower you mow the less of the reel you actually get to use. Due to our mowing heights, we change out greens reels when they hit the low 4.7's on the Pi Tape, and fairways get changed out when they measure 4.6. I have had reels in the past trying to mow at 100 to .090 with ultra thin knives on them and dragging and the reel still had what appeared to be a lot of life left in it. That's when I started setting limits for our rebuilds / change outs. This way we maintain consistent cutting units and a good quality of cut without needing to worry if we can go lower or not.
