I need some advice on a foot valve that doesn't leak back by the seal, to keep a small pump primed. It is for a water feature (which are the most time consuming things I have ever encountered), I was sold a Dixon cast iron, rubber flap foot valve. I set it in the shop sink on its end, filled it full of water and shocker it didn't hold the water for a minute. I don't want to put this on the intake line, and then mess around trying to make something that isn't going to work, work. This is a "member project" that they had to have on our signature hole, and when push comes to shove, they like to say, well, its really yours since its on the golf course. the line is 4", and this was sold to me by my local irrigation supply house. Looking for advice or suggestions, I can turn the end of the line any direction necessary once its in the water.

It probably needs more of a head of water to seal. About 3 pounds per sq. in (5 ft.) should seal it. Call the manufacturer ans see what they say.
