I have a 2010 GM 328D. The fan does not mount directly to the front of the engine but comes off a pulley on the backside and transfers the power from back to front by way of a shaft which is in a tube mounted to a cradle. The cradle is bolted to the block at the front. The bolts holding the cradle (and the threads in the block) have stripped and we are having trouble getting them successfully re-tapped. The bolts keep breaking due to the vibration of the machine. Has anybody had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it?

Thanks Matt. I think we finally got it right.

Lee, if you still have this problem I have a suggestion for you. I also had this machine but it was an older unit. the fan assembly was the same as yours. after fighting with this for a few years I suggested to my Equipment tech that we eliminate the fan assembly on the top of the engine altogether. I know this sounds strange but what we did was removed all of the hardware and installed an electric fan. fortunately for my my vice president owns an auto repair shop and runs a wrecker from it. I simply took the fan shroud from my GM and went shopping for an electric fan that would be able to bolt to my shroud. It took a little modification was all and it worked fine. ran like that for around 7 years, until the machine died on us.
