we use a fair amount of foliar fertilizers and micronutrients on the greens. scientifically speaking, how long does it take for the leaf blades, once sprayed, to do all the absorbing of the chemicals it's going to absorb. In other words, in the heat of the summer when I need to do some hand watering, how long until its safe to water without washing off the foliars.

First, what's the harm with washing the fert into the soil? It ought to be available for root absorbtion unless you drench, so not a total loss? Secondly, and I can't find the documentation to back it up, but my understanding is in general (and this is oversimplified), 50% is taken up within 1 hr, 25% more within the next 24 hrs if not watered or mowed, and 25% can expect to be lost to various mechanisms.

I do use a lot of foliar chemicals that wouldn't matter if it got washed to the roots, but I do use some foliars that I'd like to stay above the canopy as long as possible....I basically just wanted to make sure I wasn't watering too soon and completely negating the benefits of spraying foliars in the first place. Thanks for the input.

Somewhere in this forum a scientist piped in on that exact subject. If I recall properly he stated that foliar intake by the plant and the products they were researching were going to be close to fully complete in the first 20 minutes. He had some pretty sound research so I say hand water away!
