When George Bush was President, many voiced concerns about the Patriot Act. Fast forward to 2013 and we seem to be living in a country where privacy is a thing of the past. We know under Obama, the NSA has turned the Patriot Act into snooping on steroids yet I haven't heard this discussed anymore. A Consumer Protection function created by the Dodd Frank Act to supposedly clean up banking, now tracks every single transaction each of us make on a daily basis. Obama-Care will allow the IRS to give new staff that are supposed to train everyone, access to critical personal medical information. We are now being electronically monitored 100% of the time. Soon it will be mandated that every car made will have a black box providing our where about's at all times. Obviously, many vehicles already have this. Have we lost our freedoms completely at this point? Is this a right vs left issue anymore or is it simply tyranny. We know the IRS used private information to pass on to groups (Soros sponsored)to defeat Romney by trying to tar and feather his donors. Should we be seriously worried? We know bad people within government will use personal information if it helps their cause. Are we now East Germany under the Stasi or the old Soviet Union with the KGB? Are you concerned? Why has it been so quiet on this issue?

Sandy, It seems to me you defended The Patriot Act quite strongly when it came out. It was just a stepping stone to where we are now. Forget the government part of the equation....on average each of us are on one form of surveillance 12 times a day, and that is by the private sector.
    Privacy doesn't exist anymore

Larry, I am not sure if I ever commented on it to any length since I didn't have a strong understanding of it. All I know is the authors of the Patriot Act claim it was not even close to what we are doing today. Obviously, we need to do what is necessary to track down sources of terrorism and prevent things before they happen but it seems it has gone well beyond that. I especially worry about what could be divulged with people's medical and financial records. Look at the way companies have looked at employees Facebook pages. Many things have come back to haunt people that have posted foolish things. I guess you give up your privacy when you post things for everyone to see but I feel financial and medical information could be used for no good. I just wonder where all the loud voices about how intrusive the Patriot Act was considered are now? I don't even know if you can call this a right left thing.

    Couple things:
We love technology and the ability to have everything at our fingertips, literally. Unfortunately this makes it easy/convenient for many of our activities, likes, dislikes, etc. to be monitored/tracked by somebody or some entity. Get off the grid and this tracking becomes a little tougher. Hard to imagine that.
Second - I can't figure out how it's decided what freedoms/liberties can be pushed aside.
For example: It's OK to kick up surveillance through various government agencies to help prevent a terrorist attack but we don't dare kick up profiling to do the same thing??
The only thing I figure is the government will implement whatever will cost US more money.

Most of us here are over thirty... so when they start implanting lifeclock crystals in our left palm, it will be a moot point. We could become runners and look for sanctuary...
