I'm looking for a tire that is not a Carlisle tire, for my sidewinder. size is 20x12.00x10 The Carlisle tires really suck and I live in Carlisle. Too bad they moved production mostly to China.

I thought so but I can't find it on their website. a search for local dealers comes up all automotive. Is Toro the only place to get them?

David, check with your automotive tire dealer. Ours has been able to get most of our turf tires as well.

What's happening with them? We've had some going on four years now no issues....

On Monday we had one that developed a bubble and blew up when the bubble got big enough to rub on the frame. Before this we had at least 6 Carlisle tires on our greens master develop bubbles all over the place. After the first two I personally checked the tire pressure every day. It was dead on the specifications. Now Kenda doesn't make them anymore but my toro rep. has some in stock but we found some BKT? locally that we will have Tomorrow. There was an earlier thread on the forums around August or Sept. of last year about Carlisle tires separating. Even our local dealer has heard some bad stories. This started happening to me about 3 years ago. About a year after the plant moved from Carlisle

    David,

Do a little searching here or on Turfnet. I am not sure where I saw it but I do know there is a major issue with many Carlisle tires doing just what you described. I know there was and should still be a deal where you can get a refund. You may want to look into it?

Let us know if you find an alternative tire. We have 4 sidewinders and I still can't believe how fast we go through tires on them.

    Good luck

Todd, we bought 2 BKT tires for $76 each, hope they are worth the extra $. I was also just notified that Carlisle tire is shipping me out a new one in 5-10 days. I pulled their warranty number from those posts from last year and it went incredibly smooth. They have a 2 year warranty on that particular tire. To open up a claim call(800) 260-7959 But have your info ready because they give you 15 days once you open the claim to send the pictures and fill out the paperwork. I'm hoping that BKT is a good tire(never heard of them)because I want this to go away.

Any updated on the BKT tires? Any other recommendations for sidewinder tires?

We use Simpletire.com for almost all of our equipment. They give you several brands to pick from.

This isn't probably the best option, but we foam filled a few tires for sidewinders a few years ago. That has made them last. They got heavy, but at the end of the day, never flat. No sidewall issues. Now, my biggest problem is convincing my tight rear end to replace them since the tread is worn, but they are always the right pressure!

Would never have gone along if we were more sidehill sloped. Mostly did this because of our "gravel" maintenance trails that are extremely tough on tire punctures.

I looked at R and R's selection. They do have an option that is non Carlisle for like 40 bucks. Might be worth trying. I've used a few OTR tires that I expected to not last, and they've been okay. At half the price, even 3/4 the life is acceptable to a degree.

Our local Toro distributor has mostly switched to Kenda from Carlisle. My experience is Carlisle's are more difficult to seat the beat and if they don't fully seat, a bubble will form.

Wow. What'd that cost you? I am a big fan of foam filling, but even small 10" tires for our Progressive mowers cost $40/each to foam. Just had 18 of them done.....sheesh.

Side story....a Superintendent buddy of mine had an assistant once that had a landscape company on the side....the Superintendent told him about foam filling the tires on his z-mower....assistant proceeded to fill them with foam from a can. Wasn't pretty he said. Lol.

Honestly, I don't remember, I think I traded out a few rounds of golf with the tire shop manager. He lined it up to do it when he was filling some bigger construction tires I think. Been a long time ago, like 8 years or better. But, those tires are still up!

Could always try R&R if you use them or simply look at their website. They usually have a variety of tires in different treads/sizes. I get mine from them quite often and never had an issue. Even some of the lesser known names.
