Having an issue with a Workman 4200 that is a bout 8 years old, 2400 hours.

We have a tough time getting up even the slightest of inclines, even when unloaded. At times we need to shift to low gear or we won't make it up the hill. One issue is the shop is on a small hill and this makes life difficult getting into the shop at times. And the course is also fairly hilly.

    Suggestions??

Is it possible that the clutch is slipping? is the cable adjusted properly? Does the engines RPM increase while climbing a hill but vehicle speed does not increase. try climbing a hill in 3rd or 4th gear if it lugs the engine and wants to stall out I would say you clutch is fine. if it doesn't want to climb and the engine doesn't load up hit could be slipping

The engine rpms go up but there is no power going up the hill and speed drops to a crawl and sometimes need to shift to first low gear to get up a slight incline.

Make sure the is clutch pedal free play. if the cable is to tight the clutch will be slightly engaged and possibly slip.
