We have a toro 3150 that will die after 2-3 hours of running. As the temps outside get warmer the tri-plex will die in 1/2 hour. It will restart and run about another 5 minutes but eventually won't start until it cools down.
We have replaced fuel pump, changed gas cap, cleaned carburetor, removed gas tank and cleaned, replaced fuel filter and spark plug.
Any suggestions what else o check. My mechanic is at a loss.

Sounds like an electrical problem. Run the machine until it warms up and shuts down, then use a spark plug tester. If it fails to spark, it may be a bad ignition coil or another component in that circuit.

What model and serial is this unit? Seems like you were on the right track. I would think if it were a coil issue that both wouldn't go bad at the same time.

Funny you should post this because my mechanic is actually working on the exact same thing and it was the head gaskets. All I know is that the air filter was soaked in oil and it was smoking like crazy but after a little poking around that's what he determined. He has been with me for a little over a year and has yet to be wrong about a diagnosis. Just something to look into.

Just to say the obvious, make sure your cooling fins and heads are clean before you throw too many parts at it. That means removing all the heat shields and covers, and blowing out with compressed air.
When I started, our 3150's had enough junk built up under the shields to start a spud farm (lost an engine because of it).

Toro told us to replace the ignition switch and that has solved the problem.
Thanks very one for your help.
