Here goes the annual, semi-annual or monthly wetting agent question....

I currently use Revolution and it has been to the best of my knowledge fairly successful for me. With my moisture meter, I am getting better knowledge of where I stand, and I am only having occasional LDS, some I know due to construction issues, (knobs and ridges), along collar edges (sand base greens with clay pulling moisture out of the sand) and some other spots for whatever reason, (maybe high traffic areas or some other unexplained phenomena, I used to think some of it is irrigation coverage, but with the wet season we've had, I'm not sure it's that, but I suppose there still is that possibility until I disprove it with some irrigation audits).

I am curious if anyone is using the following program of Cascade Plus at 4 oz. with 1 oz of Duplex on a 30 day cycle.

I also am wondering what if any tablets people might be using. Sounds like th EZTabs are popular in our area, this might address some of my collar and LDS issues.

    Just looking for some feedback.

    Thanks!

    Melvin,
Used to spray cascade/duplex at those rates but still saw a good bit of lds. Had better success with 2 applications of Cascade at 8 oz 2 weeks apart followed by 4 oz applicaations of magnus 30 days apart.

For localized spots i like to use Lesco's Moisture Manager. I can hit my trouble spots about once a month and not have to worry about them.

    Hope this is helpful,

    Mel,

Not for sure if you have heard of Soaker Plus from Helena Co. I have religiously used it for the past 2 years and love it. Im also adding Turf Screen to the mix. So far this year I have pulled the hose out 1 time on a sat.
So far that combo is working for me.
I showed a st louis supt the Soaker Plus and now thats the only wetting agent he uses like myself. I have tried using lesco flo but it seems like the soaker plus holds the water better and penetrates better than any other wetting agent Ive used in the past. I do use the lesco wet tabs as a last resort but the soaker plus- 8 oz ever 30 days. From some trials last year I put 8 oz every 3 weeks. Yea it says 30 days but from experience the last week it seems to allow more hot spots so I put it down every 3 weeks.
This is the 1st year I have used TurfScreen and so far so good. I think the combo of both products is doing whats is suppose to do. :-)

    Thanks Virgil,

When we were discussing it yesterday, there is an element of microbial activity that breaks down the wetting agent and sometimes during the summer it gets to be a little stretch for the 30 days as it was explained to me.

    Mel,
I have used Reservoir DG for isolated hot spots from Helen. It was expensive at first, but helped out a lot. I just ordered 5 gallons of Reservoir SP. The user rate is 2 quarts per acre. I will be doing my first application next week and sand based greens and tees. Trying to keep moister in my soil as we are on a riverbed with pure sand 20 plus feet deep throughout the golf course.

Cascade 4 oz / Duplex 1 oz every three weeks in spring and fall (first app bump Cascade to 6 oz) has worked well. Summer I just use Duplex 1 oz every 2 weeks. Have substituted lower cost equivalents and achieved the same results. USGA greens ranging from 8-12years old and original construction from 85-15 to 90-10 and wide variety of micro climates. Discovered moisture manager a few years back...won't do anything for your LDS, but allows you to run things drier (if its not raining all the freaking time). Occasionally touch up spots including the rare LDS or ridges and mounds that require extra attention with any of the "omnidirectional" tabs from any of the major manufacturers (whichever is most cost effective). Since it isn't a large part of our program, and I haven't seen much difference from one to another, I don't worry much about which pellet.

    Mel,

EZTabs have the same AI as Magnus. Which is to say that EZTabs is a hydration product. If the surface is sealed up then they won't do much for you, at least not from my experience. In the past I've used a penetrant followed by EZTabs and that has worked quite well.

We use a combination of Revolution at 2.5oz/1000 and Pervade at 1.0oz/1000 every two weeks. Been using this combo for two years now and have had the most consistent, firmness and even moisture levels in my greens.
