I was asked to put a maintenance dress code in place for greens staff members. Has anyone out there been asked to formally put one in ink. Thanks in advance!

Depending on the size of the crew, look into uniforms. I was able to get base board pricing so it's costing less than 60 bucks a week.

Rather than standard uniforms we allow each staff member $240/year to buy polo or cotton shirts with our logo on them. The shirts are all green and we offer them a choice of 5 or 6 styles. They can also use up to $100 of that for pants. Most of them buy jeans while others buy the more standard heavy duty work pants. They usually set aside some shirts and pants for meeting days etc. so they are a little cleaner. We also provide coveralls they can wear and logo jackets. In the long run the expense isn't really that much and they all look pretty good most of the time.

We used to use a uniform service company but switched when I took over. I now buy my guys 5 polo shirts logo'd, 5 pairs of pants, hooded sweatshirt, and rainsuit (used for 3 seasons or more). I can get shirts for about 9.5/ea, pants about 13/each, sweatshirt 14/each. Find this helps with all aspects of making our crew look professional for the members and their guests. I feel if I don't provide them then I can't really dictate what they are to buy and wear.

My last job, the gm told me maintenance can buy their shirts and non gym shorts as part of the job requirements. A restaurant server is required to buy white shirts and black pants. I didn't argue but I did not enforce the policy as the staff was paid 7.25 an hour and comprised of students and seniors.

Although we provide uniforms to employees once they've reached 90 days, prior to that mark we encourage out guys to wear khaki pants and either a tee shirt or collared shirt. But, since they are typically doing grunt labor once they start, most eventually just end up wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and that is fine. We do require, in writing, that there is nothing offensive on the shirt and that it is G rated. Also in writing is no tight shorts like spandex, shorts that are too short and no low cut blouses for the ladies. This part came after I had an employee show up in Spandex shorts and a tank top with no bra on.

I fail to see the issue

If you ink it out and make it so, the club has to pay for it and you can enforce it.
