I just re-read Arnold Palmer's biography A Golfers Life. He spent a lot of time writing about his time in the Coast Guard so you know it meant a lot to him. Happy Birthday. Kenneth Ingram, UMD.

Happy Coast Guard day to you Steve, my fellow Coastie! You actually did real active duty time though, I was just a reservist. I think a career ranks a little higher on the thank you for your service scale than 6 months of active duty and 5.5 years of meetings and summer camps!

Hey Sandy. Regardless of the branch or the time in service, if you served honorably then I honor your service and your commitment. The thing that I liked most about being in the Coast Guard was being one of the people who, when things looked the worst for someone and no one else would come, we would go regardless of the situation. Our mottos back then were "You gotta go out, you don't gotta come back" and " Can't never did a damn thing, try always did".

    Semper Paratus

    Steve

By the way, Lar, McHale was in the Navy.

I do regret my decision to not stay in the reserves when my 6 years were completed. That was definitely a decision of someone 24 years old not thinking long=term!
