I am in the process of completing my CGCS portfolio. Once I am done I would like to have an editor review the portfolio looking for any writing errors. Does anyone have recommendations for a company that would do this? I feel that the editor would have to understand the industry because of the detailed information provided in the portfolio.

    any help is greatly appreciated.

    Chris,
Do you have a GM or someone who could check it? If not, how about the local high school English teacher? I really don't think it needs to be someone who understands the industry. As a portfolio grader, one of the major reasons portfolios get rejected is because of grammar and punctuation. The other main reason is because the question wasn't answered or the submitter did not follow directions. Best of luck with your submission.

I had one of our administrative assistants in the company proof it for me. Glad I did, she caught a couple of mistakes I had overlooked. Gave her a $50 gift card to Bonefish and she was ecstatic.

Are you using the online portfolio instead of paper version? Online is more efficient. Also if you do spell check on your document, this helps with any grammatical or spelling errors. I did my portfolio online ($50 at the time - 1.5 years ago) and very productive. Good Luck.

As a portfolio grader myself, I echo Steve's comments. The vast majority of sections that get rejected in a portfolio fall into either grammatical errors (including the uses of correct words in incorrect form i.e. their vs there), or answers that do not answer the objective being asked. There are many resources for having portfolios proof-read, including teachers, English major students, or journalists (generally). While I do agree that spell check is a great tool, spell check does NOT catch grammatical errors or sentence structure mistakes. Good luck with your quest to become a CGCS!!
