My walkers (fixed head toro 1000's) seem to scalp at times on the "uphill pass"?

My mechanic and I cannot seem to identify the cause.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Are the greens really dry when cutting?

Pressure created by the operator by pushing forward on the handle?

Have you changed bed knives or bed bars or is the reel worn? If so the attitude of the reel setup my bed too aggressive and causing the scalping.

What type of mower are you using? Have you measured the size of the reel? Have you ever bench plated?

Check a couple things, I think Tyler and Jefferson both hit on the problem. Wonder if you mowers are not parallel and when they are going up hill the operator pushing up on the handle is causing them to rock and scalp. Start with a bench plate. This could also be caused by the drive roller bearings being shot, put it up on the kick stand then use a bar and a dial indicator to look for movement when lifting under the drive roller with the bar, may also be able to hear it too.

^What those guys said. I will also reinforce paying attention to handle pressure. The handle should always be kept by the operator in the neutral area of the rubber grommet. This allows the machine to accurately follow the terrain.

I might be stirring up a hornet's nest here, but if you have turf susceptible to scalping (not sure if that's the case here), I would never use a 1000. We live in a time where you can pick up a used Flex 21 for a few hundred bucks.

You could also try a less aggressive 108-4303 extended cut bedknife.

don't know if you have found the solution but maybe your greens grain is growing that direction. at times my mowers will do the same thing only in one direction and we use triplexes. it always tells me in need verticutting.

    Thanks for your input guys!
    Greatly appreciate your thoughts.
Have not been checking the forum lately...ryegrass is exploding out here.
Thanks again, I will relay your thoughts to my mechanic.
    Take care.
