Last time I used the grinder I was relief grinding and I had to push the grinding wheel by hand over the spiders of the reel. Trying to get one more grind out of it. I have had to adjust actuator screw in the past in order to get it to return on the carriage. After adjusting the tension on the screw again. Now the actuator only travels part way down the rails and it stops randomly. Has any body run across this before any suggesting would be a big help, thanks

Does it travel all the way down and back without a cutting unit set on the grinder? Is it just doing it when relief grinding? If its hitting the spiders and they're that wore down you may only get a spin grind out of them. I'll do some digging and if I come up with anything of value I'll let you know.

    Regards,

You can go to Foley United and find manuals there. In looking at your grinder, from what I've found online it operates the same as the Foley 670 did before they changed to a belt drive system. If you've been tightening up the bearings to get it to grab hold of the shaft you may have worn out the bearings and will need to replace them. They require a certain load and keeping the shaft clean so it travels correctly without needing to be over tight or overloading the bearings is important. There is a contact person on the website, Vince Tomly, who is really good at helping people out over the phone with issues, I'm sure he can be of more help to you.

    Regards,

I think the bearing in the actuator are original. I will give him a call, thanks for the help Henry.

The grinding head stops during set up, before contact is made with the reel. I was setting up a greens mower to spin grind. Made I finished of the bearing when I pushed through the old fairway reel? Thanks again for your help.
